This section describes the general concept behind the integration of the information generated by Woodwork for Inventor into the overall flow of information from Autodesk Inventor design software to Autodesk Vault.
Autodesk Vault has 2 configurations (Basic and Professional), which differ in functionality. The following differences are relevant to the topic at hand:
▪The Autodesk Vault Basic configuration supports file storage and meta-data (file data card) for these files.
▪The Autodesk Vault Professional configuration has the same level of support for structural information as Autodesk Vault Basic, but with the addition of an information layer to support BOM items and the resulting structures – BOMs. BOMs essentially reflect the same structure of the Autodesk Inventor assembly. Autodesk Vault Professional provides a complete environment (Item Master) for managing BOMs, the composition of which can be edited, unlike the included file structure (this does not refer to the possibility to change the composition of the product in the Autodesk Inventor environment). This is because it may be necessary for BOM to include items for objects that are not modeled in the Autodesk Inventor environment. E.g. lubricants, adhesives, product manuals, etc.
Woodwork for Inventor generates additional information that is nominally not serviced by Autodesk Vault and is therefore not accounted for in any way. The Woodwork for Inventor extension and Autodesk Vault can be configured to ensure that this information is correctly transferred to the Autodesk Vault system.
From the above information it is clear that Woodwork for Inventor has two levels of integration with Autodesk Vault:
1.Integration of Woodwork for Inventor data with Autodesk Vault at file meta-data level.
2.Integration of Woodwork for Inventor data with Autodesk Vault BOM level.
The sections provided below briefly explain how these levels are implemented:
▪Requirements for Autodesk Inventor project
▪Autodesk Vault integration at file meta-data level
▪Autodesk Vault integration at BOM level
